Non profit status, status. Glenn Currie As most of you know I have been investigating what it would take to get the group set up as a non profit organization. Not much progress to report. I have been exceptionally busy dealing with some Japanese visitors at work and have only had time to make a few phone calles since the last meeting. I have been playing phone tag with Preston Wong. He is an attorney that Brooks Coleman had suggested I call. Preston seems interested in working with us but seldom seems to be in his office and is a bit slow in returning phone calls.
Gifted Students Program Alex has been asked about the possibility of providing a two to four hour presentation about robots to a group of gifted students. It is my understanding from Alex that the person that called him has not really pursued the matter. If anyone has any ideas or interest in assisting with this possible presentation please contact either Alex or Glenn. There are two possible time periods for the presentation: July 17-28 or July 15-26. |
Mailing address and phone number Glenn Currie At the last meeting Brooks Coleman brought in some nice Robot Group posters. The write-up on the poster gives a brief statement of the purpose of the group and includes a couple of other real important things. We now have a phone number (answering machine) and a postal address! Thanks Brooks for getting this set up! Here's the mailing address:
The Robot Group The phone number is (512) 473-3854
Children's Museum Exhibit Controller Alex mentioned to me a couple of meetings ago that there was an interest in producing an exhibit controller based on the Motorolla Business Card Computer (M68332). He said he would not have enough time by the August deadline (there would be a test run in late July) to do all the work himself. I told him I was |
interested in working with the 68332 for several projects and would help. At this time I have written a partial specification of how the 68332 could be used to control several 68HC11 based displays After doing some reading in the three large data books that describe the BCC I have begun to set up a development environment. I have "C" cross compiler that runs on any MS-DOS based PC and produces code for 68000. Using this compiler developers will be able to enter code, compile, link code and then download it into the 68332 board for testing. If you have an interest in assisting with the project please notify either Alex or me. I probably will not have enough time to do all the coding but will be involved to produce a specification allowing multiple programmers to work in parrallel.
News from you If you have any news about the group let me know and I will try to get it into the newsletter. |
